Proven methods of how to overcome limiting beliefs which prevent us from getting what we want

What are limiting beliefs, and why we get them? Does it make sense to resist them? If yes, how to destroy your limiting beliefs?

How do we get our limiting beliefs?

First of all, we should understand wherefrom limiting beliefs are coming. We can roughly place them in 3 groups:

Some negative beliefs have roots from our childhood. They usually have the biggest impact on us, since they are connected to our personality, self-feeling, and self-confidence.

Another beliefs we get when we compare ourselves with other people. We can make conclusions that other people are better than us at something.

Some beliefs are developed from a misunderstanding that each of us has its own picture of life. There is a reality, and there is your own picture of reality. It is only your perception of something which is not the reality.

We should remember that our limiting beliefs are our OWN IDEAS which limits us in our thinking and behavior. When we start to change something in our lives, our brain tries to resist it, and pops-up with different limiting beliefs. And in many cases, it could change our course and prevent us from achieving our goals and getting what we want.

But by recognizing the limiting beliefs, you can shift them. By doing so, you open the door to new possibilities.

What can we do to overcome the limiting beliefs?

Here are 6 effective steps which work for me when I need to change my negative beliefs:

1. Identify and acknowledge the belief which you want to change

Example of limiting beliefs: I can’t do it because I am a woman/man, I am too old/young/not good enough for something, I don’t have enough time to work on my dream, I’m afraid to talk to a camera, etc. 

2. Link the belief you want to change with a pain

Close your eyes and feel how big impact the belief has or is going to have on your life. What will it cost you in 5, 10, 20 years? What will you not be able to achieve, what you will lose due to this belief? Then open your eyes and feel relief that this has not happened yet, that you still have a chance to change it. 

3. Decide about what is your new empowering belief. 

Example: I can do it, I am talented, I am not afraid to talk on public, I enjoy running, etc.

4. Link the new belief with a lot of pleasure

Close your eyes and feel how the new belief will change the quality of your life, what you are going to achieve in 5, 10, 20 years. How are you going to feel then?

5. Open your eyes and compare these two scenarios. Which one will you choose? Repeat the exercise again if you still don’t know which scenario is more attractive.

6. Start to take actions and conquer the limiting belief.

This is the most important step in destroying and conquering your limiting belief. By only thinking about the limiting belief you will not get forward. But with actions comes the results. With results comes confidence. With confidence, your limiting belief became smaller and smaller.  Continue to take action until the limiting belief would totally disappear.

All breakthroughs begin with a change in your beliefs. If you can re-program your negative thoughts and believes about yourself, you will create a confident mindset. Remember that You are the master of your life!
